Description
The uniqueness of our Cotton and Merino Wool Rug lies in its one-of-a-kind character, the meticulous craftsmanship behind it and the exceptional quality of the natural fibers used.
Handwoven on a traditional wooden loom using an intricate twill weave technique, this rug stands out for its depth of color and richly textured surface. Made from a premium blend of merino wool (70%) and cotton (30%), it is finished with a jute backing that adds strength and stabiliy over time. Its dense structure offers excellent insulation and helps to retain warmth.
Ana and Francis create each rug manually on the loom, working thread by thread and guiding it with their hands and feet. They attend to every detail, from securing the stitched edges to prevent fraying to attaching the jute backing. Each piece is then hand-washed with natural soap and steam-pressed to achieve its final finish.
This thoughtful making process, together with the quality of the fibres, results in a rug that brings lasting character and a quiet sense of comfort to your home.

My visit to Ana y Francis’s workshop in Orcera, in the Sierra del Segura – Jaén, remains vivid in my memory. I remember the colours, the textures and the steady rhythm of the looms as they worked with their hands and feet. Their notebooks, filled with details of each woven piece and sketches of future designs, revealed the thoughtful process behind their work. The atmosphere inside echoed the landscape outside— calm, vibrant and full of character, with greens, blues, and ochres.
Touching their scarves and feeling the softness of their rugs and blankets left an unforgettable impression, a true testament to their dedication. I wasn’t alone this day; I was with six dear friends, which made the visit even more special.

COLORS: Warp in two shades of beige and weft in blue and mauve tones.
MATERIALS: 30% Cotton, 70% Merino Wool. 100% jute woven bottom.
Cotton is a textile fiber with exceptional qualities: it’s soft, flexible, durable, absorbent, breathable, and very versatile. It can be used in both summer, offering freshness and lightness, and winter, providing warmth and comfort, depending on the thickness of its yarn.
Merino wool comes from the fleece of Merino sheep, known for its high quality. It’s very soft, flexible, breathable, and warm, making it ideal for retaining heat. Our Merino wool comes from native sheep in Extremadura, raised with care and respect to ensure excellent quality and softness.
Jute is a vegetable fiber mainly obtained from the white jute plant. It has insulating and antistatic properties, as well as low moisture retention. This material is an excellent sound insulator and does not cause skin irritation. It is widely used as a resistant and durable textile.
WARMTH: high
DETAILS: The rug features hand-sewn selvedges of weft thread splices on the edges, as well as overlocked edges to prevent the fabric from unraveling. Additionally, it has a jute lining sewn both by machine and by hand to add quality and durability.
CARE: To preserve the quality of the rug and prevent possible damage, we recommend:
Washing: hand washing with neutral detergent and cold water. For large rugs, dry cleaning or professional laundering is advised due to their weight.
Drying: To dry, roll a towel onto the clothesline and clip the rug with two pegs, hanging it vertically to avoid marks and facilitate ironing if necessary.
Ironing: It’s not necessary to iron, but if you choose to do so, use the recommended wool temperature setting on your iron. The rug usually looks good without ironing.
