Description

This papercut artwork is an original piece, meticulously crafted with creative precision and artisan dedication. NEKA, the artist behind this masterpiece, starts the process with a digital design which she then brings to life on white cardstock, delicately cutting it with a scalpel. The execution, carried out with a continuous line, reflects the artist’s remarkable ability to concentrate and visualize.

‘Lucca’ is part of the MOMA series, a quest for the evolution and exploration of new compositional lines in the art of papercutting. Inspired by pictorial images from antiquity and early civilizations, it highlights female figures radiating an aura of stateliness and presence, alongside distinctive geometric shapes reminiscent of Egyptian and Mesopotamian cultures. Influenced by the richness of the Mediterranean, the warmth of the sun, and the craftsmanship of ceramics, these representations blend the past with the present in a unique visual harmony.

The piece is mounted on Canson Plum Red paper (50% cotton). Due to the nature of the papercut, the signature appears on the supporting paper rather than on the cut piece itself.

It is presented in a wooden Barth frame with clean lines and a contemporary aesthetic. If you prefer to receive the artwork unframed, mounted on a different paper colour or left unmounted for framing between glass panels, please contact us.

EXPERIENCE CONTEMPORARY SPANISH ART AND THE QUIET EMOTIONS IT EVOKES.

Belma Craft & Art has chosen Lucca for you because:

  • It’s an exclusive piece.
  • We’re fascinated by the sense of harmony it conveys.
  • You can mix and match it with other pieces from the MOMA series.
  • It’s an exceptional gift.
  • Its framing versatility makes it suitable for any decor style.
  • We admire Nekane Jiménez’s passion for paper and her creative approach. She repurposes the remnants of her creations to craft her own paper, dyeing it with natural pigments and creating functional pieces and unique artworks.

My first piece by NEKA: From the moment I discovered her work, I was captivated. NEKA was the first Spanish artist working in papercutting whom I had the pleasure of meeting. I followed her practice closely, and when I learned she was retiring the Imperfect Women series, I knew I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to own one of those pieces.
Imperfect Woman - Neka

I chose Camila, a beautiful portrayal of imperfect womanhood — strong, sensitive and self-assured. Her gesture of embracing herself is a reminder of the importance of accepting who we are.

If you require additional information, wish to check the availability of artworks from the ‘MOMA’ series, or commission an exclusive piece from NEKA, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to assist you in exploring the beauty of Spanish art.

Consejos de Belma and Craft

The advice of Belma Craft & Art

If you prefer a different presentation for Lucca, consider a minimalist frame that keeps the focus on its clean lines and visual balance. Framing it between two glass panels creates a light, floating effect, allowing your wall colour to become the perfect backdrop for the papercut.

Nekane Jiménez, both an artist and art teacher, began her artistic career following her graduation from the University of Salamanca with a degree in Fine Arts in 2014, specializing in painting. She furthered her education by completing a postgraduate program in Illustration applied to design in Barcelona in 2017.

In her early artistic works, she showcased a keen interest in experimenting with forms and materials, all while maintaining a strong aesthetic sensibility and exploring the interplay between technique and chance.

Initially, she created large collages where she combined painting, treated as a material in its own right, with non-pictorial elements such as boards, fabrics, or plastics. These elements were incorporated into large canvases with a strong abstract quality, influenced by Spanish artists like Millares, Tapies, or Picasso.

During her postgraduate studies, NEKA underwent a radical shift in her artistic approach, transitioning to creating smaller illustrations on paper and cardboard. This change in format and dimensions was not only influenced by her academic context but also by spatial limitations, as her room became her studio. In this new direction, she abandoned brushes in favor of scissors and replaced wood with paper, cardboard, and fabric.

In this way, NEKA fully embraces the world of collage, leaving behind her painterly assemblages. However, she still maintains simplicity in forms and strokes in her work.

One of the main themes she explored for several years was “women,” which became the central focus of her work. With the “Imperfect Women” collection, she presented a vision of strong and liberated women, always with an aesthetic and sophisticated treatment.

Subsequently, her nomadic life over the past decade led her to move to a small town in Zamora, in the interior of Spain. Surrounded by nature and countryside, she found inspiration in her surroundings and created the “Entre Lindes” collection in 2021.

NEKA’s work is marked by versatility in the use of artistic techniques and disciplines, allowing her to explore and grow as an artist.

She has participated in numerous art events, such as UTOPIA in Barcelona in 2018 and 2019, and has been part of both group and solo exhibitions, including her participation in FLECHA (Madrid 2021). She has also collaborated with various brands, with the most recent collaborations being with Springfield and H&M.
